About us
Our Beginnings
Montevideo has been a port city from its very foundation, due to the features for a natural port that attracted the first settlers to the location that the city still has today. Since colonial times, Montevideo has been a port of high significance in the region, for both local market cargo and international transit.
This tradition was basic for establishing a national firm like Montecon S.A, in operations at the Port of Montevideo since 2000, as a result of the joint efforts of a group of port operators.
Since then, Montecon has come a long way in terms of activity development, professionalization of its work team, permanent investments – amounting to over 80M USD –, and implementation of state-of-the-art technology. All this, combined with Montecon’s vast experience, make it a world-class company in the field of port operations and logistics.
Montecon’s ownership structure changed in 2007 following the incorporation of two important entrepreneurial holdings, the Schandy Group of Uruguay and the Ultramar Group of Chile. The new and enriched corporate scheme enabled the application of the industry’s best practices, prompting Montecon to venture into the future with confidence and optimism.
Our Company Today
At present, Montecon is the operator preferred by most shipping lines arriving in Montevideo, which has led the company to consolidate operations of around 50% of the containers market.
Its tradition and mission of service have made it possible for Montecon to grow stronger in the market, while being acknowledged as an efficient and reliable organization, both locally and internationally.
